BSL Level 2 – Course Outline
Course Overview:
BSL Level 2 builds on the foundations from Level 1, helping learners communicate with greater fluency and confidence in a variety of everyday situations. This level focuses on expanding vocabulary, improving sentence structure, and enhancing conversational skills. Learners will also deepen their understanding of Deaf culture and communication etiquette.
Duration:
36 weeks (3 hours per session)
Course Objectives:
By the end of this course, learners will be able to:
- Use a wider range of BSL vocabulary in different contexts.
- Construct longer sentences and ask/answer questions confidently.
- Understand and participate in more complex signed conversations.
- Express opinions, feelings, and ideas clearly.
- Apply Deaf cultural knowledge in communication.
Key Topics / Modules:
- Review of Level 1 Skills – recap of alphabet, numbers, basic vocabulary, and simple sentences.
- Expanding Vocabulary – travel, shopping, work, emotions, and social situations.
- Sentence Structure & Grammar – forming questions, negatives, and more complex statements.
- Conversational Skills – role-playing real-life scenarios and dialogues.
- Storytelling & Narratives – describing events, experiences, and giving instructions.
- Cultural Awareness – deeper understanding of Deaf community, etiquette, and communication strategies.
- Practical Application – group activities, dialogues, and interactive exercises to build confidence.
Assessment / Certification:
- Continuous assessment through participation and practical exercises.
- Certificate awarded by Signature Awarding Body, recognised for formal BSL progression.
